One of the last trains to travel to Whittier. Passengers stay in their vehicles, or ride in passenger cars behind the engine. Until now, this or travel by boat were the only ways to visit Whittier.  When a new tunnel opened in the next week allowing vehicle access, there were protests from environmentalists.
